The programme is part of our commitment to advancing equity and quality in education in India
The Azim Premji Scholarship supports girls in pursuing higher education by reducing the financial barriers that often stand in their way.
It has simple eligibility criteria and an easy application process to ensure that as many girls as possible can access this support. It is not based on merit, caste, income, or religion, and is open to all girls.
Girl students who are shortlisted will receive a financial support of up to INR 1.5 lakhs, i.e., INR 30,000 annually till the completion of their undergraduate programme which could be 2 to 5 years long. They can use this money to either cover their tuition fee or any out-of-pocket expenses they may incur towards completion of their education.

Our Reach
The Scholarship is being expanded across the country in phases.
In the first year, i.e., 2024-25, we rolled out the programme in over 100 districts of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand.
In 2025–26, the second year of implementation, it covered 18 states and one Union Territory: Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Telangana, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
For 2026–27, Andhra Pradesh and Delhi have been included.
So far, the Scholarship has supported 1.95 lakh girls, and this number is expected to grow significantly in the coming years. Our intention is to award this Scholarship to 5 lakh girls each year. Assuming an average duration of three years for a higher education programme, we expect 15 lakh girls to be on the Scholarship in any given year.
